Self Referral Services
We have provided our patients with a list of services that they can self-refer to without the need to see a GP or Nurse. You can normally self-refer by phone, attend a drop in clinic or by completing a self-referral form which you can send via email or post to the service of your choice.

Ask Us Wirral is the Information & Advice Service for Wirral residents that is delivered in partnership between Citizens Advice Wirral, Age UK Wirral, Wirral Change and Wirral Mencap. Providing a free, confidential and impartial service to people on the Wirral on social care and wellbeing issues.

Citizens Advice Wirral is an independent and impartial organisation here to help you.
We offer wide ranging help across subjects that include the management of debt, problems with housing and rent, relationship issues and consumer rights.
We provide advice in a range of different ways –

Liverpool Women’s NHS – Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU)
There are over 200 Early Pregnancy Assessment Units (EPAU) across the UK in NHS hospitals, and we are lucky to have a dedicated EPAU here at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. EPAU is a specialist unit that provides care for women with problems in early pregnancy (6-12 weeks).
The most common reasons women are referred to our EPAU are:
- Bleeding and/or pain with a positive pregnancy test
- Women with previous ectopic pregnancy
- 2 consecutive miscarriages in the preceding pregnancies
- For specialist care if a problem is suspected after an early pregnancy ultrasound scan in another setting.
Self -Referral
- Assessment is by appointment ONLY
- Ultrasound scanning appointment times are from 8am – 4pm on weekdays, you will be offered the next available appointment time.
- We aim to offer an ultrasound scan within 72 hours of referral
- Access is via:
- Self-referral by telephone assessment on 0151 702 4140
- Clinical assessment in the Emergency Department
- EPAU is located on the ground floor via the entrance to Gynaecology Emergency Department (GED).

No time to come into clinic but need testing?
Don’t worry, we offer free and discreet STI (chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis) and HIV postal test kits which you can order online. The kit is the quickest and easiest way to get tested and is sent in discreet packaging to an address of your choice. Results are text to your phone within 7 days. It’s that easy!
Need free condoms?
Pop to one of our clinics and complete a registration form. Once you have completed your form you’ll be able to request free condoms from any of our clinics.

Our clinics run 6 days a week in fully accessible venues across Wirral.
We offer a mixture of walk-in and wait and appointment clinics throughout the day to suit all lifestyles.
Walk-in and wait clinics
Our walk-in and wait clinics offer limited slots and operate on a first come first served basis.
When clinics are at full capacity, patients asking to be seen will be triaged and those who fit our urgent criteria will be a priority.
At busy times we may need to signpost non-urgent cases to other clinics or recommend patients make an appointment for an alternative day or suggest a return visit.

Brook
We provide a specialised Brook Service for young people aged 19 and under.
Our walk-in and wait clinics run every week:
Brook, Birkenhead
Monday – Thursday, 3.00pm – 6.30pm
Friday, 3.00pm – 5.30pm
Saturday, 1.00pm – 3.30pm
Our service also provides young people’s clinics at:
- Victoria Central Health Centre, Wallasey
- Eastham Clinic
Talking Together Wirral
Everyone goes through difficult times, but sometimes our problems affect our day-to-day lives and we feel that we can’t cope. If you are in this situation, you are not alone.
Talking Together Wirral (TTW) is a free and confidential service, commissioned by the NHS, and is available to anyone aged 16+ who lives in the Wirral.
TTW is delivered by Insight Healthcare and supported by:

We provide a non-judgemental service, with qualified, experienced staff & volunteers who offer support in health & wellbeing and substance misuse. We can talk to you in a number of supportive environments, and all which have a friendly atmosphere and provide you with information to help you reduce your substance misuse or become abstinent.
